WHAT IT IS
Databricks was founded in 2013 by the creators of Apache Spark and offers a unified data and AI platform. On top of its data lakehouse it provides model training and deployment, and it develops the open-weight DBRX model.
Why it matters
It put model training on the data platform enterprises already have, making "the model lives where the data lives" a route to deployment, and open-sourced DBRX as a demonstration of its model capability.
