WHAT IT IS
Huawei was founded in 1987 and makes telecom equipment and devices. It develops its own Ascend AI chips with a matching software stack, and publishes the Pangu family of industry models. The compute and models are aimed mainly at the enterprise market and its own cloud.
Why it matters
It is one of the few vendors developing both AI chips and models, offering a relatively independent software and hardware stack when compute supply is constrained.
