WHAT IT IS
LangChain was founded in 2022 and provides an open-source framework that connects language models to external tools and data sources. It abstracts prompt templates, retrieval, tool calls and multi-step flows into composable components.
Why it matters
It abstracted the glue code around models into a common interface, becoming the most frequently cited framework in early LLM app and agent development.
