WHAT IT IS
NotebookLM is a document assistant Google released in July 2023: after you upload a set of sources, it answers only within those sources and cites where each claim comes from. It turns retrieval-augmented question answering into a directly usable product and supports sources such as documents, web pages and slides. Later versions added “Audio Overviews”, which turn a body of material into a conversational podcast.
Why it matters
It turned “answer only within the sources you provide, with a citation for each point” into a product for ordinary users, a clear example of retrieval-augmented question answering.

Inference Optimization & Serving
