Cursor
A desktop code editor that treats the whole repository as context
WHAT IT IS
Cursor is a code editor from Anysphere, launched in 2023 and built as a fork of VS Code, with large-model abilities built directly into the editing experience. It can use the entire codebase as context and generate and rewrite code across multiple files, and lets you point a conversation at specific files or functions as grounding. Cursor is distributed as a standalone desktop IDE.
Why it matters
With “whole-repository context plus cross-file rewriting” it redefined the shape of a coding assistant, moving AI coding from single-line completion toward editing whole blocks of code.

Capabilities
Related concepts
Agents & Tool Use
Let a model do more than answer: search, call APIs, run code — and decide the next step from what came back
Prompting & Alignment
Making a model helpful, honest and harmless is harder than simply making it bigger
Inference Optimization & Serving
Training happens once; inference happens a billion times a day — and serving is torn between fast first tokens and high throughput, which usually pull against each other
