WHAT IT IS
Firefly is Adobe’s generative image tool, launched in March 2023 and integrated into Creative Cloud apps such as Photoshop and Illustrator. It offers text-to-image, generative fill and expand, placing generation inside the editing workflow — for example, filling a selection in Photoshop. Adobe states the models were trained on Adobe Stock and public-domain content and provides commercial guidance for its outputs. Firefly is a closed service.
Why it matters
It embedded generation directly into professional creative software instead of standing apart, making generation one step inside the image-editing workflow and representing the tool-maker route of integration.
